Notepad++ is an open-source text-editor for Windows designed for programmers and web developers. This free download is a powerful replacement for Windows’ own Notepad.
Three things make Notepad++ popular among coders: its support for hundreds of programming or script language, support for plug-ins, and extensive customization possibilities. Text is color-coded to facilitate scanning through lines of code, plug-ins like FTP_synchronize lets users upload their work to websites, while most aspects of the editor can be configured to streamline the development environment.
Notepad++ also lets users automate repetitive tasks as macros. The software’s developer also claims that the editor uses the bare minimum of system resources, reducing power consumption and “resulting in a greener environment”.
